Behind the scenes – what can we learn from journal publishers?
On 29th of February, the JVET ECR Group and EERN-VETNET offered the online event “Behind the Scenes – what can we learn from journal publishers?”.
The aim was to introduce publishers’ perspectives regarding the publication processes of international journals, with special regard to the needs and questions of emerging researchers.
Our round table guests were: Stephanie Allais (Journal of Vocational Education and Training), Silke Lange and Christoph Porcher (International Journal of Vocational Education Studies), Elizabeth Knight (special issue editor of International Journal of Training Research), Jay Plasman (associated editor of International Journal of Training and Development from the perspective of a reviewer) and Léna Krichewsky-Wegener (from the perspective of the Editorial Office of International Journal for Research in Vocational Education and Training).
Questions that were discussed in detail and from different perspectives were, for example: What are the most common reasons for manuscripts being rejected? Did the Editors notice the impact of generative AI in the manuscript submissions lately? In what ways could researchers benefit and use AI? Are there research topics that Editors have been missing/waiting to see among the submissions?
See below to listen to this event.

PhD Abstracts
The editors and editorial board of the Journal of Vocational Education and Training take great pleasure in publishing abstracts based on new doctoral theses in vocational education in the Journal of Vocational Education and Training
This initiative provides a platform for new doctoral graduates to share their research with the wider vocational education research community. This idea has been introduced by the Editors to support early career researchers in vocational education by publishing a set of abstracts summarising doctoral students’ theses in the final issue of JVET each year.

Book Reviews
JVET welcomes suggestions of books that are suited for JVET and warrant a review. If you are interested in reviewing a particular book raise it with our Book Reviews Editor prior to writing the review. Please note we are unable to consider unsolicited reviews.
• From time to time our Books Review Editor may flag a book for which we are seeking a reviewer. Writing a review can be part of a developmental process through which can help authors to get into the habit of writing for publication.
• It is expected that reviews are between 500-700 words.
• We aim to publish reviews that are critical and that engage with the text so that readers will gain a sense of what the book is about and its potential readership.
• The review will also open-up a scholarly and respectful dialogue. The book may have particular strengths or weaknesses, but it may also pose a number of interesting questions the reviewer would like to raise that could push the debate further.
